Greece offers up to €10,000 per person to relocate to depopulating border regions

From 2025, a state resettlement programme is in effect for the Evros region in the country's north-east. The scheme covers the municipalities of Sofli, Orestiada and Didymoteicho, where populations are in sharp decline.

Both individuals and families are eligible for assistance. Payments are disbursed in two tranches. The objective is clear: to halt the depopulation of border territories and draw residents back.

For investors, this presents an opportunity worth considering from the perspective of regional development prospects. The Greek state is evidently prepared to invest in infrastructure and regeneration of these areas. Those evaluating Greek property outside the established tourist zones should examine such regions more closely.
