Nearly 200 family hotels seek new owners in Greek mountains

Small hotels with 10–30 rooms are being offered for sale in Arachova, Kalavryta, Karpenissi and Arcadia. Owners are exiting the business owing to rising costs and seasonal volatility—mountain resorts depend largely on winter trade and weekend visitors.

Interest remains strong, however. Buyers are predominantly members of the Greek diaspora—people who have left Greece but wish to return or invest in their homeland. Beyond nostalgia, they are drawn by genuine potential: mountain tourism is becoming year-round. Winter brings skiing, summer offers hiking and cool temperatures, whilst autumn and spring attract nature enthusiasts.

For investors, the proposition is compelling: established businesses with existing customer bases, rising demand, and crucially, the prospect of obtaining Greek residence-by-investment status through property acquisition.
