Iberdrola's proposed Guarda wind farm enters environmental review
Iberdrola has begun preliminary environmental licensing for a proposed 14-turbine wind farm in Guarda. The project would have 100.8 MW of installed capacity and is described as capable of generating almost 27 GWh a year. Part of the study area lies within the Serra da Estrela UNESCO Global Geopark, while a special conservation zone is about 450 metres away.
The project still faces environmental and grid-connection approvals. The source article estimates that its annual output would represent about 0.5% of Portugal's electricity consumption, although that comparison appears arithmetically inconsistent with 27 GWh and should not be repeated without clarification. REN reported that wind supplied 24.2% of Portugal's electricity consumption.
