🇵🇹Portugal
Issue No. 237
Twenty-two thousand victims a year because of the heat. In Portugal, this is no longer fiction, but reality. Since 1980, extreme weather has claimed more than €13.4 billion of the economy.
To stop this trend, by 2029, the Red Cross and Zurich will launch a program for 100,000 residents of Lisbon and Braga. The goal is to teach people how to survive the heat and fires.
The program includes first aid training, planned exercises and assistance to the vulnerable: pensioners, migrants and families with chronic diseases. Create local solutions to protect against climate risks.
