🇵🇹Portugal
Issue No. 226
36.2 billion euros is how much tourism in Portugal earned in 2025. This is almost 12% of the country's GDP.
The sector continues to grow: the contribution to value added increased by 5.5% compared to last year. But there's a nuance. Despite high incomes, the role of tourism as an engine of overall economic growth is declining. In 2024, it added only 0.4 percentage points to GDP growth, and in 2025 - only 0.3 points.
Tourism remains an important pillar of the economy, but its ability to pull the economy behind it is becoming less visible amid a general slowdown.
