Art, history and wine is a great day for Extremosis. On Sunday, August 8, the 2026 Supernatural Portuguese School Art Prize in Extremosa opens to combine art, history, food and wine in one of Alveteo'
Despite its famous white marbles, medieval castle and winding streets with traditional cafes and independent shops, Extremoz attracts tourists with its quiet life away from the bustling resort shores.
On Sunday, August 8, the Supernatural Portuguese School Art Prize exhibition opens at Howard's Folly Winery, where the exhibition will be on display throughout the month.
In addition to 30 outstanding works by students from Portuguese schools on display at the exhibition, it also celebrates the creative gift and technical ability of the country's next generation of artists.
Howard’s Folly takes its place in one of the most unusual contemporary art collections in Portugal, where visitors can get acquainted with the works of famous foreign artists such as Joana Vasconcelos, José Manuel Espiga Pinto, Kevin Francis Gray, Bouke de Vries, Patrick Hughes, Chris Levine and Sam Jinks.
This is a unique opportunity to look at the main and new personalities of art at the same time.
The diversity continues at the winery. Many of Howard’s Folly’s wines are decorated with original works by artists such as Sir Michael Craig-Martin, and finalists from previous editions of the Portuguese School Iskus Prize and drawings by children participating in the Coverge Art Foundation’s Expert Arts Program.
It is a small but powerful success to remind everyone of art as something in common, rather than a separate and frequent subject.
Before the exhibition opens, families are invited to take part in One Table, One Drawing - a free collaboration between 14:00 and 15:30.
Based on the works presented at the exhibition, everyone can add their drawings and ideas to one big picture on the table. Every member of the family, from a young child to an elderly person, can add their own sketches, paints and ideas, which together with time form one integral work.
Sunday 8 August opens from 16:00 to 18:30 for visitors to see the exhibition for the first time, meet with members of the Supernatural Iskusov Foundation and dedicate the day to celebrating the most exceptional Portuguese young artists.
Not only will this event be unique to Extremosis, it will also be the perfect moment to get a first glimpse of the collection in the heart of Alveteo.
All works will be available for online viewing on the prize website, where visitors can vote for the best work. Standard works will be sold and all proceeds will go to the Expert Iskusov Foundation Overge Art Foundation, its free courses for vulnerable children and young people across Portugal.
Whether you come for a market, history, food or art, Extremosis is always ready to provide a great reason to enjoy a summer day. In August 2026, tourists will experience not only one of the most beautiful Portuguese cities, but also the amazing work of the country’s next generation of artists.
