Atri in Abruzzo emerges as foreign buyers' favourite, up 61% year-on-year
The small town in Teramo province has become the region's leading destination for overseas property enquiries, accounting for 4 per cent of all real-estate searches in Abruzzo. The appeal is no accident: Atri is a living medieval town with Renaissance palaces, views across the Adriatic and the Teramo hills, where life moves at a human pace.
Prices remain accessible. Buyers can acquire a townhouse in the historic centre, apartments with panoramic views, or period buildings requiring restoration. Foreign purchasers are arriving from the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany—some captivated by a sunset glimpse, others seeking authentic living near the coast.
Abruzzo as a whole is gaining traction. Beyond Atri, attention is turning to Castelvecchio Subequano (at the entrance to the Sirente–Velino national park), Penne (between sea and mountains) and Rocca Spinalbeti, with its rural character. Here one wakes to the sound of church bells, gazes upon hillsides, and finds the sea a half-hour's drive away, with mountains even closer.
