27 cameras in the heart of Lisbon have been keeping order for ten years. Now the authorities have extended the license to operate the system for another three years.
Bairro Alto is considered one of the most dangerous places in the capital, where both petty theft and serious crimes are committed. MP Joan Batista recalled that 109 cameras are now installed in other parts of the city.
City Hall plans to install another 116 surveillance devices on Pombaline and Santa Apolónia by 2028. The investment will amount to 3.5 million euros.
