Italy is asking the European Commission to extend the exemptions, with Brussels promising aid by the end of the year. While the rules are implemented unevenly in Pisa checks are almost suspended, and in other terminals instructions for passengers change on each flight.
Non-Europeans with EU and Italian passports do not need to stand in line. The rest should arrive in advance to have time to pass biometrics without stress.
