From September 1, Portugal will change the rules for stateless people. The new law will only deal with the Integration and Migration Agency (AIMA).

Applications are submitted free of charge and are treated as an urgent matter for six months to nine months. While the checks are underway, the applicant is given a temporary visa for six months with the right to renew immediately.

The stateless will be given access to medicine, education and work, and legal cases for illegal stay will be suspended. The successful recipient will receive a two-year visa and a special travel document.
