A direct flight from New York to the Azores will be launched in 2027. United Airlines will be the only U.S. carrier to link the U.S. to Terceira.

Regular service three times a week will begin on June 9. This will allow residents and tourists from North America to reach the island without connecting via Lisbon or Ponta delgida. The airline will also increase cargo traffic, helping local products to reach U.S. markets faster.

Regional authorities regard the news as an important step for the development of tourism and business in the Central Archipelago.
