Oliveira de Azeméis plans grants for historic and local shops

The municipality of Oliveira de Azeméis plans two programmes to support local commerce. Businesses designated as historic shops could receive up to €5,000 for eligible conservation and modernisation work. A separate programme for local retail and restaurants proposes support for rent or upgrades, including up to €250 a month for six months in rent assistance.

The measures were still being finalised when announced in August 2026 and were expected to take effect late in 2026 or early in 2027. The historic-shop designation would recognise businesses with local architectural, cultural or social significance. The wider programme aims to make the town centre more attractive and help existing businesses modernise.
