Portugal launches residence permit renewal portal for September–October 2026 expirations

Portugal's immigration agency, AIMA, has opened a dedicated online system for renewing residence permits. The portal is currently available only to those whose permits expire between September and October 2026.

Residents whose visas expire during this window should visit portal-renovacoes.aima.gov.pt to submit their renewal applications.

AIMA has indicated that it plans to stagger the opening of the portal for other expiration dates to manage demand and prevent bottlenecks. The phased approach suggests Portugal is preparing for a significant volume of renewal applications from foreign residents.

Those holding Portuguese residence permits are advised to check their expiration dates and apply early where possible.
