Foreigners see potential in Portugal that locals overlook
A paradox that has persisted for several years: whilst Portuguese residents criticise their country, international investors, technology companies and funds are pouring hundreds of millions of euros into the Portuguese economy.
Foreign investors do not deploy capital out of affection for the weather or cuisine. They select markets where they identify growth potential and stability. In Portugal, they find precisely that: security, strategic location, skilled workforce, renewable energy and quality of life.
Certainly, challenges exist. A housing crisis, bureaucracy, low wages in certain sectors. Yet these headwinds do not outweigh competitive advantages. The global economy seeks exactly what Portugal offers: stability, sustainability, innovation, clean energy.
Technology hubs, data centres, artificial intelligence projects, foreign talent choosing to live in the country—these are not coincidences. They are market signals.
When so many companies and individuals believe in Portugal's potential, perhaps it is time for the Portuguese themselves to start believing too?
