Tuscany offers up to €30,000 to relocate to mountain villages
The region has launched the 'Residenzialità in Montagna 2024' programme, which subsidises the purchase and renovation of homes in sparsely populated communes. Authorities have allocated €2.8 million to revitalise mountain areas with fewer than 5,000 residents. Each successful applicant will receive a grant of between €10,000 and €30,000.
The programme is open to EU citizens, Italians and foreign nationals holding a residence permit of at least 10 years' standing. The key requirement is that the property must become your primary residence. You can choose from 76 communes, ranging from the celebrated Montalcino, renowned for its Brunello wines, to the medieval town of Volterra.
The application window was extremely narrow: from 12 to 27 June 2024. If you missed the deadline, watch for future rounds—such programmes typically repeat.
