Troia Peninsula: Portugal's understated alternative to the Algarve

An hour's drive from Lisbon, the Troia Peninsula operates by a different logic entirely from the Algarve or Cascais.

Located in the Alentejo region, Troia offers 15 kilometres of white beaches meeting the calm waters of an estuary. On one side lies the Atlantic; on the other, dolphins in placid waters. Even in summer, the area eschews tourist crowds in favour of privacy and unhurried living. A notable golf club with views across the Serra da Arrábida mountains completes the picture.

While neighbouring Comporta has become an Instagram darling, Troia remains in the shadows—and this is precisely what attracts serious investors. Construction here is strictly controlled, nature is protected by law, and building density is low. This is not a resort machine but a community of villas and apartments integrated into the landscape rather than imposed upon it.

Major players have already taken notice. Sandra Ortega, daughter of Inditex's founder, has invested in the region. Investors here value not mass tourism but long-term scarcity and authenticity. Portugal's luxury market is clearly moving in this direction.
