Plaza de Espagna is one of the classic architectural stations of the Lisbon Metro, known for its geometric tiles that create depth and movement. The station has been open since 1959 and was designed b

The station has two main atriums with minor differences in design. In the southern atrium, tiles form non-existent geometric motifs, where repetitive modules grow into larger abstract shapes. In the northern atrium, elements are grouped in such a way that they almost resemble ghostly forms.

Passengers feel that the station looks more like a quiet underground museum than a rectilinear space for transportation. The walls change on the go, making the daily trip more active and artistically expressive.

Please: Did you pass through the Plaza de Espanha? Did you notice the three-dimensional effect of the modules on the tiles when you looked at the walls?
