British families save £13,000 annually by moving to Spain—but not through property prices

A new CostLiving study reveals that the average British family spends £37,353 per year, whilst their Spanish counterparts spend £24,598. That represents a 52 per cent difference, or nearly £13,000 annually.

The most striking finding: the bulk of these savings come not from property acquisition (a one-time expense) but from ongoing living costs. Renting a three-bedroom apartment in Spain costs approximately £1,038 per month compared with £1,381 in Britain. Electricity is £98 cheaper monthly. A litre of petrol in Spain costs 23 pence less.

In total, a British family overspends more than £1,000 monthly simply on living expenses. And this saving compounds year after year whilst residing in Spain.

Admittedly, Madrid and Marbella command higher prices than provincial areas. Yet even in popular coastal towns, the Spanish lifestyle remains substantially more economical than its British equivalent.

For those considering relocation or purchasing a second home, these are not merely statistics. They represent genuine money remaining in your pocket year on year.
